STOP. The big bold letters leapt out at me as I got up to stretch during a long train journey. Having spent most of the past hour dreaming about the wonderful holiday I was returning from, the bright red sign outside the window provided a useful reminder to pause, breathe and enjoy the country views.
I know I am not alone in my tendency to spend a large portion of my waking hours re-living the past or planning the future. While it’s no bad thing to revisit good (and less good) memories, or plan and prepare for days ahead, it’s important not to end up almost totally living in the past or the future and missing out on the sights, sounds, tastes and feelings of the present moment.
Regular students will know that we begin every class by ‘checking in’ with our bodies, breath, energy and thoughts in order to root ourselves in the here and now and fully reap the benefits of our yoga practice.
So, as the season warms up and spring gets into full swing, a regular yoga practice will help you to STOP a little more often, and fully experience and enjoy the increasing warmth and daylight that the time of year brings.
Looking forward to August, there are still a few spaces left on this year’s mini retreat in rural Berkshire. This day long retreat will take place in a beautiful village hall and garden just one hour from central London. We will enjoy two extended yoga sessions, a walk through the nearby fields and woodland, a delicious vegetarian lunch and homemade cakes. Last year’s retreat sold out so do let me know if you’d like a space! Please click here for more details.
Meanwhile, have a great Bank Holiday weekend and hope to see you at class soon!
