A cluster of tall, willowy trees grow in the quiet little courtyard outside the studio where the Primrose Hill yoga classes take place. At the moment they are in full leaf and provide a soft, soothing melody for our Savasana (corpse pose/relaxation) as they sway in the wind.
If this sounds appealing, then why not take your yoga practice outside to a park, garden or into the countryside this summer? The sights, smells and sounds this time of year are a brilliant tool for setting aside any mental whirring and focusing on fully experiencing the present moment.
Perhaps try closing your eyes and listening to the singing of summer swallows or swifts, or drinking in the smell of freshly cut grass. Another option is to leave your eyes open and simply focus your gaze on clouds dancing across the sky. After a few minutes you should feel calm, focused and ready to begin the physical part of your practice (or to stay just as you are, enjoying the here and now!)
We will be doing some, if not all, of the above on the one day relaxing and re-energising summer retreat in beautiful rural Berkshire on Sunday 13th August.
The day will include two extended yoga practices (hopefully outside!), a lunch of local produce, a walk through countryside, drinks and homemade cakes! I am also delighted to let you know that thanks to the kindness of one participant, private transport from central London is also available. Please click here for more information and let me know if you have any questions or would like to book a place (only two remaining!).
Classes in July will continue with our ‘adapt, adjust, accommodate’ theme of late; cooling and calming down with inversions and pranayama when the weather is hot and opening, strengthening and balancing the body when the temperatures cool.
Enjoy your outdoor yoga and hope to see you very soon,
