The Greek philosopher Heraclitus is quoted as having said “change is the only constant in life”, or “the only constant is change.” Recent events have certainly highlighted his point and brought with them a vast range of fluctuating emotions – be these pessimistic, optimistic or just confused!
In order to fully reap the benefits of a regular yoga practice, the asanas (postures) and pranayamas (breathing techniques) you choose should relate directly to the rest of your life, whether this is quite straightforward like strengthening a knee, or more complicated like coping with change and uncertainty. With this in mind, classes in July will focus on restoring a sense of physical and mental balance as we cultivate the strength and stability to stay grounded, but the flexibility to move with changing times.
In other news, I want to say a big thank you to the wonderful individuals who attended the Energise and Restore retreat at St John’s College Oxford. A few photos of the day can be found here.
A number of people have asked when the next retreat will be and I am pleased to tell you that there will be another day at St John’s in 2017. Before then I would like to invite you to a pre-winter yoga afternoon from 4-6pm on Saturday 19th November in Primrose Hill. We will practice some flowing sequences to help us ground, centre and mentally prepare for the hectic Christmas season before enjoying some teas, cakes and chat. The price will be £22. Please let me know if you would like to reserve a space.
Meanwhile, have a good July, and hope to see you soon!
